Lyris Women's Choir:

Where Your Voice Matters.

More than a choir. A place where your voice, confidence and musicality flourish.

Imagine...

Walking into rehearsal each week feeling excited.

Knowing you’ll leave feeling lighter, more confident and deeply inspired.

Imagine discovering a freedom in your voice you never knew existed.

Imagine singing music that moves both you and your audience.

Imagine belonging to a choir where every woman is encouraged to grow – not simply blend in.

Where friendships flourish.

Where musical excellence and kindness sit side by side.

Where every rehearsal feels like time invested in yourself.

This is what Lyris was created for.

Award-Winning From Its Very First Year

Lyris was honoured with Most Inspiring Choral Performance at the Carlisle and District Music and Drama Festival despite being the newest choir in the competition.

This recognition from a highly respected adjudicator reflects the exceptional musical standards, artistry and supportive culture that make Lyris unlike any other choir in the area.

Perhaps you've been looking for something different...

You love singing. Maybe you’ve sung in choirs before.

Perhaps you’ve enjoyed them, but deep down you’ve always wondered…

“Could I become a better singer?”

“Why doesn’t my voice always do what I want it to?”

“Would anyone ever help me develop my own voice?”

Too often, choirs focus entirely on the group sound.

Individual voices are expected to blend in rather than develop.

Many singers are left lacking confidence, unsure of their technique and never truly discovering what their voice is capable of.

At Lyris, we believe every singer deserves more than that.

Because when every individual voice grows stronger, the choir becomes something extraordinary.

Welcome to Lyris

Lyris is an award-winning women’s choir in Carlisle for women who want more than simply singing together.

It’s for women who want to develop their voice, grow in confidence and experience the joy of making beautiful music in a supportive, ambitious community.

Every rehearsal combines musical excellence with genuine encouragement, helping each member discover more freedom, expression and confidence in their own voice.

Because every note matters.

Every word matters.

And every singer matters.

"My voice now feels much more connected to my body rather than being a sound that just happens. I've discovered how emotion transforms my singing. I never realised before that singing without emotion felt like simply reading words in a monotone."

Why Lyris is Different

Unlike many choirs, Lyris doesn’t simply rehearse music. We help you become a stronger, more confident singer.

Weekly Rehearsals

Every Thursday evening you’ll enjoy inspiring rehearsals where beautiful music is brought to life while developing confidence, musicality and ensemble skills.

Held between 6.30pm-8:30pm at Austin Friars School in Carlisle.

Online Vocal Development

Between rehearsals you’ll continue developing your voice through weekly 40-minute online technique sessions, helping you build healthy vocal habits, strengthen technique and keep your voice fresh throughout the week.

Every session is recorded, allowing you to revisit the exercises whenever you choose.

Tuesdays at 7.30pm via Zoom

A Community You'll Look Forward To

Lyris is a choir built on encouragement, friendship and shared ambition.

Women come together each week to support one another, celebrate progress and create something truly beautiful.

Many members say it becomes the highlight of their week.

A Safe Space

Meet Charlotte Jackson

For almost four decades Charlotte has dedicated her career to helping singers discover voices they never realised they had.

But what matters most to Charlotte is creating a choir where women feel supported, challenged and inspired to become the very best singers they can be.

Her passion isn’t simply conducting music.

It’s helping every woman discover the confidence, freedom and joy that comes from truly understanding her own voice.
